Okay… I just had this weird brain storm head canon moment…

Remember how before Daring Doo was confirmed for "real" in verse, we kind of assumed that Twilight's mom wrote the Daring Doo series?

Well… I'm suddenly thinking… What if there's two versions of Daring Doo? Similar to James Bond being a legacy character.

To put it another way… What if it turns out the Daring Doo series has been going on long enough that the original writer of Daring Doo had retired and left the work to someone else? Perhaps having written the original series long enough ago that the books didn't have illustrated covers?

In that sense… The following reasoning is that if one Daring Doo is real, and writes stories of her own life, then the hypothetical other Daring Doo might exist as well.

Of course, writing this I realize the next thought implied is "Twilight's mom is Daring Doo"… Except that would be wrong, since Twilight's Mom is a Unicorn, not a Pegasus. So with that in mind here's my thoughts…

Perhaps Twilight's Mom was a friend, or maybe sister to the original Daring Doo, and when the original Daring Doo came back from adventures, Twilight's mom would novelize the account for publishing; presumably cause the first Daring Doo wasn't much of a writer.

… Later, the original Daring Doo would have a child that would continue the legacy, while deciding to novelize the series herself. Thus closing the comic/cartoon plot hole.

Of course… If you take the idea that the original Daring Doo is Twilight's Mom's sister seriously… That also would also get the idea that the current Daring Doo is Twilight Sparkle's cousin.

So yeah… This shall be my head canon, as complicated as it is.

Ginger Snap was a trap and I could never figure out a cutie mark for her. Made her back when that Hub pony creator first came out. They didn’t have white or red as actual colors, so I colored her in paint. lol. Kinda wish I could get a plushie made for her. That and maybe an actual art commission.

JJ's done a couple of pics like that, and they always confuse me.

I mean, why is she in the storm? Has she, like, run into the disaster area just to tell everyone to be careful. Because, by the looks of things, it's a little late for that.

Or is she, like, in the middle of volunteering for the relief effort and then, after the storm is over, tells everyone to "stay safe"?

No matter how you look at it, this scene makes very little sense.

Welcome to the ride. Please fasten you seatbelt and don a poncho, because Equestria Academy will soon be upon us and it's going to get bumpy going through the shitstorm.

On a related note,

That's a month later than the first EqG, which could suggest S5 might come later as well.

We can build a fort together!

@EqG:RR So we have a date, eh? I must make it with my local state meetup group this time. I haven't been to one in over 2 years and the time has come.

The next time you say "shitstorm", I'm going to throw a pebble at you. The pebbles will increase in size and mass until you stop using that word whenever you want to post random news.

But I'm hella excited for Equestria Academy. Perhaps I'm just optimistic about it.

You seriously don't think it's going to be a shitstorm? Given the reaction to the first EqG, the reaction to the prequel books, and the reaction to the animated shorts for Rainbow Rocks, I think it's pretty certain there's going to be one to Equestria Academy. Especially if Flash plays a central role, which he probably will given the need for more characters.

Just because the thread almost never overreacts to news doesn't mean the rest of the fandom doesn't.

Bring on your pebbles, my yard needs some gravel for the garden anyway.

Okay serious answer. I take it you are referring to all the futanari which has taken the R34 segment of the fandom by storm in recent times. Looking at derpibooru now, there is a fairly balanced ratio of dick to vagina visible (then again, that's with my filters that hide a lot of the stupid crap) however a good chunk of that dick is attached to mares from what I can see

Reasons for the amount of hot horny stallions populating the R34 rather speak for itself. They are quite easily explained by the fact that this fandom has more women and LGBT that it shows. I think we've got more of those compared to previous years. I'd like to see a new brony survey for this year to see how much those demographics has changed from the last.

But not only do we have the stallions, you've also got this massive chunk of futanari added into the pool of dicks. The futanari is increasingly popular, even among the straightest guys I know. And I don't think that's unique to this fandom either. It's become a very common fetish, so that's making horsedicks a more common anatomy in the R34.

All of this of course shows up on Derpibooru, because derpibooru is pretty much a pr0n site anyway.

As for why so many people like futanari. I have theories. Straight guys love it because it permits hetero sex scenes without actually having any unattractive male genders involved. Bi people love it because it offers a lovely mix of both sexes. Dunno how gay people feel about it. Lesbians must not be enthralled because I rarely ever see futanari applied in reverse (dudes with vaginas). And overall, it's an interesting twist.

Why does KYM have so few horsedicks?

Because site rules.

Why does Derpibooru have so many horsedicks?

Because Internet rules.

There are bigger reasons, but those are the simple ones.

I've noticed that one of my favorite current artists (the-butch-x) has taken up a "Happy" series with the Mane Six doing all sorts of drugs. Here are the two that bother me most.

(There's a Rainbow Dash one where she's injecting. It's even less pleasant.)

I can normally ignore the content of an image add long as it's well-done. But smoking and my hatred of it is so embedded in me, I hate to see it glamorized like this.

There are several Rarity and Audrey Hepburn images where Rarity is smoking. But I think the difference is that she's not shown as inhaling as a young teen. She's basically cosplaying as Hepburn. Here, Twilight and Fluttershy are just casually smoking.

Am I taking it too seriously? Does it offend any of you? Both?

It makes me feel uncomfortable, but I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm offended. I suppose I have the same attitude that I have towards gore or non-humanized porn: it makes me feel uncomfortable that characters from a show that I love are being put into situations that I deem as "unnecessarily adult."

That isn't to say that I don't want to see the Mane Six go through relatively adult situations. It's just that these situations in particular I feel have no real place for me. They just don't work together.

I also understand that this is an artist that you enjoy. This is unfortunate. Artists are free to do as they like, but I, as a fan, am never particularly happy when they shift into a direction I don't desire, and why should I be?

It isn't offensive to me, it just doesn't seem in Twilight or Flutters's characters to smoke tobacco. If anything, Fluttershy would be more likely to smoke pot instead. AJ would probably chew tobacco (because south), and Rarity I can kinda see smoking one of those really long fancy cigarettes. But Pinkie's too childish, RD would get suspended from whatever sports league she's in, and Twilight is much too smart to indulge in anything.

Anyways, here's a hoppy (GET IT?!) Vinyl.

@Futa

Ah, now we're straying into my area of expertise.

The futanari is increasingly popular, even among the straightest guys I know. And I don’t think that’s unique to this fandom either.

I can confirm this, and provide a little bit of history, too.

Back in the early years of the new millennium, when I first stumbled upon furry porn, there wasn't much catering to this particular fetish. Some scattered pieces here and there, but generally speaking, you had to know where and what to look for. A few years forward, hermaphrodite was a commonly understood term and could easily be found. Now, just about every artist has at least a few pieces of the stuff.

If I had to wager as to the cause of this boom, I'd put my money on oriental imports. The currently most widely understood term, futanari, is Japanese, after all.

As far as I understand it, the Japanese have always viewed the division of male and female much more fluidly than we westerners. I've seen quite a few ukiyo-e paintings dealing with hermaphrodites, at least, and there's undoubtedly several folkloric tales of the same vein.

The closest equivalent we have in the west would be Baphomet, and if I'm understanding the history correctly, its largely a rip-off of some ancient middle-eastern deity, with some extra bits most likely added by the church to make it even more heretical. Although, if you dig a bit further, you find some old Greek myths, from which the word hermaphrodite originates. But I doubt anyone remembered much about those until the renaissance, and I don't recall there being a surge of futa art in that particular era.

Of course, if you dig real deep, into the prehistoric artifacts, you'll find plenty of fertility idols displaying the (highly exaggerated) qualities of both sexes. The idea itself is old as dirt.

I rarely ever see futanari applied in reverse (dudes with vaginas).

I've seen plenty, myself. It's popular enough to have its own term, cuntboy. But that's with the furries, I've seen maybe one or two clop pics of it.

@Drugs

Well well, this fast becoming a real den of iniquity.

Both my parents smoke like chimneys. Well, mom quit 'cause her doctor told her she'd be dead in a few years if she kept it up. I ain't followed in their footsteps, and neither have my brothers. Alcohol's a little different, this being Finland, and I'm the odd man out since I've never even been drunk. That's damn near tantamount to sacrilege in these parts.

I have a mostly live-and-let-live attitude towards that and even the harder stuff, but I'd like people to make an informed choice, 'cause there's rarely any going back with this stuff. But if folks wanna take that risk, hey, it's your funeral, not mine.

As for whether you're taking it too serious, Verbose, I think you might be, yeah. The artist claims it's all in good fun, and I'm inclined to believe him. After all, half of the appeal of this sort of thing is the juxtaposition of a character commonly understood to be innocent and wholesome doing something commonly understood to be morally reprehensible.

Not everyone's cup of tea, of course, but the reverse is quite fun too; bad guys being nice. Why do you folks think Draco in Leather Pants is so popular, eh?

It was really lovely seeing you DeadParrot! I'm really glad you dropped by after our panel to say hello and talk about KYM. Hope you're all doing well!

@Platus: Poke me sometime on Steam man, you're still one of the cooler folks I remember from KYM.

@Verbose: Yeah, I am getting tired of that banner too. I was waiting for someone to come along and make another one, but I guess I have to actively ask. Hopefully we'll get a new one soon!

Oh my god, the prophecies were true! Hey Calpain! Remember me?

…Oh yeah, we've never met.

I must be 200 years too late because I don't think Calpain was still posting when I got here…

… As such I shall now talk about what I know… Which would be the fact barely anyone has made any ponified Sailor Moon despite the fact the reboot just started.

I decided to remedy this with a quick costume change on a long overdue update on my MLP/Homestuck Crossover comic.

Enjoy

The second one's a new image so I have no idea if I screwed up or not, and the first has been fixed a bit since the last time I showed it here.

#Moon Pride

Calpain's back!

It was good to see you, too!
Unfortunately I was helping out on staff so I wasn't able to get to the panel itself but thanks for taking that minute to talk out in the hallway!

More EFNW stuff:

<div class=spoiler title="Cosplay Suits">

One thing that was really interesting was the significant population of full-suit costumes at this convention.
I had gone to EQLA before and there had been one or two, but this place had probably somewhere around at least ten people in full costume and the quality of them was good enough to not be creepy as hell.

(Yes, Shining brought a giant foam wife to throw at people. And I saw a saxophone player serenading him with BBBFF at one point, too.)

The Gilda person was especially on-point.
She stayed in-character the whole time and even barged onto the stage during the VA panel to 'bully' the moderator until Gilda's VA stepped in.

There was also the tiniest little ponysuit I've ever seen!
Sweetie Belle there was a little girl, probably no more than 10, who was really quite adorable.
You sort of expected the adult-size characters to be running around, but rounding a corner and seeing a tiny Sweetie Belle was quite funny.
Oh, and this happened:

I can't remember if I mentioned this thing before the con, but if I didn't, a ton of plushie/fabric artists got together this year to create a giant 35-square quilt to auction off for charity.

There it is right after being sold for $20,000!
Since that figure is just about what last year's charity auction made in total, I think it is safe to say that that item was a pretty big success!

Lastly, I wanted to mention a game that I believe just debuted this weekend (in its non-beta form at least).
Twilight Sparkle's Secret Shipfic Folder

Yes, that is the name of the game and it is about as nutty as that would imply.
It is also a ridiculous amount of fun when you get into it.
The premise is that Twilight is a horrible writer of self-insert, complete-nonsense shipping fiction… and you are going to help her make her terrible stories.
Read more about it here (and even download a pre-release set of the cards for yourself), but the true experience of this game is in playing it.
It's quite simple in design but does allow for a good deal of strategy once you know the mechanics, but the most fun comes from simply running with the premise.
Since the idea is that you are writing a terrible shipfic, playing each hand in the form of a crappy story is amazingly fun.
How often do you get to say stuff like "Twilight Sparkle wondered what she did last night with Flim and Flam who were surprised by an unexpected pregnancy with Discord who then teamed up to fight crime with Mrs. Cake"?
Because that kind of insanity is par for the course in this game.
Oh, and every card has excellent artwork and flavor text that only adds to the hilarity.
I don't think my little text blurb can really do it justice here, but as someone who has almost no interest in CCGs like Magic and whatnot, this thing completely won me over, made me buy my own deck, and I can't wait to play some more at BronyCon.
