Pixiv Is Now Filtering Images by Region

As per this post, Pixiv is now filtering out images based on one's listed country. What this means is that things like loli and /ss/ are mostly blocked for most places, and I am sure that R-18 stuff is completed blocked in countries like South Korea and Iceland (where porn is technically illegal). I am sure that those concerned about the ability of drawings to consent will be pleased while the rest of us will need to set our locations to Japan in order to use the site as before. Keep in mind that this will hamper our ability to see quite a bit of fanart due to stuff about how certain characters (like most in Pokémon) are technically minors.

As an aside, those whinging about lewds of characters under 18 25 and go on about characters being "minor-coded" sound so much like the moral guardians of the 90s and 00s crying about violent video games. It feels as if that ilk just repackages arguments from Jack Thompson when they screech about said lewds.

So a testimony: I've yet to be affected by this restriction.

Given Indonesia's dumb stupid loathsome disgusting and outright smelly vehemence on blocking even the most minor NSFW materials on the internet, I doubt the country is exempt from this regional block.

So I can only assume that this whole thing is easily bypassed by simply setting your pixiv account's region to "Global", which is what I've had it set to since I registered.

I could not find "Global" in the region setting, so it was perhaps removed. The settings menu implies that it uses one's IP address to set the region, but allows one to change it at any time. The best bet maybe to select "Antarctica" for its weird legal position, though I am not sure how well it will work.

With that said, the stuff that is blocked is pretty arbitrary. Some loli stuff slips through the cracks while some works are blocked for whatever reason (ex: there was one joke image drawn to resemble what a child would make that was blocked for me, despite it not having any minors in it.)
