I've finally had it with Twitter and its constant bullshit, both from Elon and the userbase. I've been considering it for ages and finally put my foot down.

The bad news – Twitter was my main place to get info about what games, movies, and shows are coming out, and now that I'm done with it I don't know where else to go. I at least have sites like Nintendo Life for video game-related news and IMDb for movies and shows (unfortunately they mostly only cover mainstream crap, only a third of which actually interests me), but beyond that I got nothing. Tumblr's still a dead zone and my Facebook was linked to an old email I can no longer access.

So… where do you guys get your news/updates about shows and games and whatnot apart from Know Your Meme?

reddit, I use reddit it pretty convenient

ngl sometimes i kinda just stumble into finding the things that truly catch my eye
whenever i actively try to find myself that cool new thing i'll like i usually don't exactly get very far

Though tbh reddit IS pretty cringe also tbh avoid discord and 4chan, I would recomend youtube tbh for all its corporate bullshit its a pretty versatile and relatively "sane" platform (though definetly avoid the darker sides) especially with the community tab allowing a lot more interactivity and well….community.

the problem with YT is that you have to know WHERE to look for certain things and HOW
and that's IF you already remember or even know what exactly you want in the first place
otherwise you typically just gotta pray to the almighty algorithm

Oh yeah that is a massive problem you sometimes get lucky and sometimes…dont.

Its a shame ALL social media has some serious bullshit you need to deal with there isnt really a "good" social media anymore (4chan and Twitter are really toxic, discord and facebook are bad for your sanitya and/or compassion, tumblr and reddit can be really cringe, etc)

To get more specific about two: Discord and facebook are usually EXTREMELY herarchical (no joke I aint even talking about any in specific I been in A LOT already cause I like exploring) and if you are at the top of the hierarchy…you will become a douchebag and if you are at the bottom of the hierarchy…you will become a douchebag (me) while discord and facebook can at times be LOTS of fun…I ultimately really cant recomend it cause of it.

Discord is good for personal friend groups, small game servers and the occasional development colab server. Discords that are apart of a main game are just riddled with spam and I've left so many of them.

Reddit is a place you can find some good commuties but I'd highly recommend staying away from the popular page because it's just full of misery. Other than that I can't really recommend other social media. YouTube is probably the better streaming platform to visit over twitch but I wouldn't really consider Youtube as a social media space, but more of a dedicated home video platform with discussion capabilities.

I think Resonite in recent times has been my go-to place for social interaction. VRchat is larger platform but has too many kids and groups there can be iffy. The weird thing is nowadays I feel more comfortable playing and chatting with strangers than some of my older friends. It's hard to make a new friend nowadays.

Other than what was already mentioned: MyAnimeList for anime/manga news.

Bluesky got out of invite-only recently so if anyone has been using it I'm curious about how good it is (though, I heard it requires a phone number to sign up or something?)

Nowadays? I usually chill here, but I find the occasional site that piques my interest. You just gotta be willing to wander the internet, and you'll find something.
