"Carefully He's a Hero is an image macro featuring a screenshot from the 2004 superhero film Spider-Man 2 that includes the line as a subtitle. Online, people use a screenshot of the scene in which the line is said to make jokes about paying tribute for absurd or humorous actions.

Origin

On June 30th, 2004, the film Spider-Man 2 was released in the United States.[1] In the film, the character Spider-Man (portrayed by Tobey Maguire) passes out while using his physical strength to stop a runaway train. Before falling from the tracks, the train's passengers carry Spider-Man over their heads. The clip was uploaded to YouTube on December 8th, 2016 and received more than 39 million views in two years (shown below).



On September 7th, 2017, Redditor [2] furrutia29 posted a screenshot of the scene and added the subtitles "carefully, he's a hero." They captioned the image, "When the kid that sent you the hottest teacher's nudes gets expelled." The post received more than 21,000 points (93% upvoted) and 125 comments (shown below).

Following the post, people began using the image with a variety of different caption. For example, Redditor[3] WithinTheHour posted the image in the /r/gaming subreddit, adding the caption "When your teammate clutches the game with 1HP left." The post received more than 18,000 (93% upvoted) and 195 comments in less than one year (shown below, left).

On December 30th, Redditor[4] RGUO19 posted a variation in which the image is captioned by a news headline that reads, "Furries are now illegal in Germany." The post received more than 1,600 points (94% upvoted) and 60 comments in less than one month (shown below, center).

Less than two weeks later, on January 11th, 2019, Redditor[5] combs72 posted a version in which the caption reads "Multiple Power Blackouts caused by man trying to relaunch Hentai Haven by himself." The post received more than 11,000 points (96% upvoted) and 65 comments in six days (shown below, right).
