About

Npesta's Kenos Verification Reaction refers to Geometry Dash streamer npesta's reaction to beating the entire custom level Kenos in a single attempt. The clip of Npesta celebrating his achievement gained popularity both as a reaction and as source material for various edits.

Origin

On December 14th, 2019, Geometry Dash streamer npesta managed to verify (complete entirely in one attempt and therefore prove it to be humanly possible) level Kenos, an Extreme Demon collaboration rated number three hardest custom level in the game (as of February 2020).[1] Npesta took 135,320 attempts to complete the level across 117 live stream sessions, reacting to his achievement by hyperventilating, crying and screaming "Oh my god!" and "Yes!" The stream recording received over 17,000 views in two months (stream recording shown below, left; clip shown below, right).

Spread

Following the stream, a number of posts about npesta's achievement were made online, including posts on Reddit[2] and Twitter.[3]

On December 16th, 2019, Redditor[4] AGT-AM posted the earliest known meme edit based on the reaction to /r/okbuddyretard subreddit, with the post acquiring over 3,700 upvotes in two months (shown below). In the edit, the video was edited to appear that npesta was reacting to beating the practice mode of the game.

In December 2019, the format saw limited spread online, including a December 16th post by Redditor[5] Butters727 which received over 600 upvotes in /r/okbuddyretard two months and a December 28th, 2019, reaction meme by Facebook[6] user Alondra Alemán which received over 2.8 million views, 18,000 reactions and 21,000 comments in one month.

The format did not see significant spread until on January 27th, 2020, Redditor[7] _pixelpudding_ posted a meme edit titled "black emoji world record" in which npesta's reaction was added to a black emoji meme speedrun (YouTube reupload below). The post received over 39,600 upvotes in /r/okbuddyretard in two weeks, with a Facebook[8] repost garnering over 333,000 views, 4,900 reactions and 8,400 shares in the same period.

Starting in early February 2020, the meme edits based on the reaction gained a significant presence in the /r/okbuddysubreddit, with videos also widely circulated on Instagram. For example, a February 10th, 2020, "Cock Island Speedrun" edit by Redditor[9] salsatortilla received over 31,800 upvotes in one day. A February 11th, 2020, edit by Redditor[10] Yeat_ gained over 3,900 upvotes in eight hours.
