My Ken's Job is a TikTok trend in which women show their boyfriend or husband's job or hobby and call it "My Ken's Job" in reference to Ken the male protagonist from the 2023 Barbie movie (portrayed by Ryan Gosling) who notably said "My Job Is Just Beach" in the movie. TikTokers who followed the trend used the "I'm Just Ken" song from the movie as the TikTok sound. The "My Ken's Job" TikTok trend surfaced en masse after the film's release on July 21st, 2023.
Origin
On July 23rd, 2023, TikToker[1] @brelynholmeslecheminant posted a video that showed her male partner washing his pick-up truck with text overlay reading, "When your Ken's job is 'Truck.'" The video also used the Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj song "Barbie World" as the TikTok sound.[2] Over the course of four days, the video received roughly 127,700 likes and 23,400 likes (shown below).

Going into July 2023, various TikTokers joined the trend by taking videos of their male partners going to work or engaging in their favorite hobby. For instance, on July 26th, 2023, TikToker[3] @grandmashelbyy posted a video that proclaimed, "My ken's job is bike," and used the "I'm Just Ken" song from the Barbie soundtrack as the TikTok sound.[4] The video received roughly 1.4 million plays and 164,600 likes in two days (shown below, left). Also on July 26th, TikToker[5] @cameronleazer posted a similar video about "My Ken's job is office," gaining roughly 3.9 million plays and 509,300 likes in two days (shown below, right).

Various viral TikTok[6][7] videos then surfaced which followed the "My Ken's Job" format, predominantly using the "I'm Just Ken" TikTok sound.[4] During the same timeframe, semi-viral usage of the phrase started to surface on Twitter.[8]

After the clip went viral on Twitter in early July 2023 and after the movie was released in theaters on July 21st, 2023, Ken's quote became a phrasal template in which meme creators replaced the word "beach" with one word that described their job.
